Carnival Triumph was our irst cruise in Jan 2007, great overall. Started with an overnight stay in Miami at a Marriot hotel. Wonderful hotel, ridiculous sized meal portions (MASSIVE!), good bar, fantastic room with balcony. Staff recommended a walk to a mall that was open late - GREAT shopping! Next day was embarkation at 1pm, so went to South Beach in the morning - a must see beach, fantastic buildings. Nothing opens though before 12pm ish (I guess because of late night openings everywhere). Embarkation - quick, easy, bit worried about getting case in time for dinner, but eventually it came. After getting case, got changed and went for pre-dinner drink, had to go back to cabin and found my GHD hair straightners gone (coincidentally, they do not work in america with a uk to us adaptor...), along with some new ones I had bought in Miami. We had not unpacked fully, so it was noticeable that they were not in the cabin. Went to see the pursers desk, was treated DISGUSTINGLY by a male purser (I'm a Reception Manager at a 3 star hotel, so I knew my stuff with him). I asked him to use a card reader on our door lock to see who had been in room. He ARGUED with me, I mean SHOUTED! Went back to room to wait for security to come after being stranded at pursers desk with a lot of hushed calls being made. Room searched by security - found straightners in a drawer under folded t-shirts - WE HAD NOT UNPACKED.
Food and drinks good quality (miami vice cocktail was divine!). The freshest selection of fruit throughout the day, amazing itinery (Cozumel/Grand Caymen/Ochos Rios). Couldn't stop at Grand Caymen due to swells or something which was disappointing, but $50pp credit to each account, so I had some time in casino with that and won $400! Formal dining good fun but food not as good as the buffet (too many flavours on one plate really). Missed every late night shindig on lido deck as was so full from dinner, ended up in bed early most nights!!
Cozumel - friendly people, great bars, good tequila shop
Ocho Rios - DUNNS RIVER FALLS IS A MUST, Dolphin Cove good also, very forceful touts and stall holders - stand your ground, lots of beggars also
Staff friendly on board - although did not have housekeeping in, as was made suspicious from the first night. Facilities were amazing, everywhere clean, cabin a bit small, good value and choice for everythng really.
I know I've rambled, but so much to talk about!
