We have just recently returned from a cruise round the Baltics on Carnival,s newes ship the Splendor. Well did the ship live up to her name ? In our opinion in one word the answer is no. The decor is the first thing to hit you, i advise sunglasses. In the lifts and some of the public areas pink is the main colour, a mixture between Mr. Blobby and big pink ring doughnuts. The Lido is a complete miss match of colours and design, i think the chap who does the designing of the ship,s interiors has finally run out of ideas.
We went to the dining room for the first 5 nights and ended up going to the Lido for the remainder of our cruise, reasons being we asked for our steak to be cooked well done, it took three attempts for them to get it right. Another night the assistant waitress brought the food and set it down on her table and that is where it sat for nearly fifteen minutes. We booked this cruise over a year ago and had requested early sitting, we were given second sitting. One night we didn,t leave the dining room till 11pm which meant we had missed the show. Not that we had missed much, we found that most of the shows were audience participation, cheap laughs at the guests expence.
The ship boasts 22 bars, well thats what it says in the book which was in our stateroom, we would like to know where they are, as we could only count 12.
The good points, cabins always clean, most of the staff friendly and John the cruise director very funny. The iteniery was excellent, St. Petersburg and Estonia were my favourite.
Would we sail with Carnival again no, would we recommend Carnival to friends no.

Having sailed on the Carnival Splendour in July (inagural cruise) I have to disagree with your comments above - I realise each cruise if different to each person but we absolutely loved this ship - yes, the decor is a bit loud and garish, but not untasteful, the ship was immaculate, the food hot and tasty and the whole cruising experience a joy. We have sailed Carnival before as well as RCI. Princess, NCL & Island and would put Carnival at the top of our list for a fantastic luxurious fun filled holiday and would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone. I'm sorry your experience wasn't as great.
